Taking time out from The Tank Museum I accepted an invitation by Frank Roberts to attend a commemoration of the Royal Corps of Signals at the Swanage War Memorial during Armed Forces Day… In lovely sunshine after speeches and prayers the assembled moved to Swanage station for a further commemoration of the RCS plaque on a GBRf Engine The unveiling on the modern class 66 locomotive, which will be widely seen across the country, will jointly be undertaken by Major General John Crackett R SIGNALS and Mr John Smith the Managing Director of GB Railfreight. The people of Swanage and the RCS shared an incredible passion to not let the railway die when the line was ripped up, they both worked together to build something very special and are now connected to the main service lines. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-40011037 During the days events I had the pleasure of talking about the Baton’s cause to the Rgt on parade, Richard Drax MP for Swanage (former Coldstream Guards) and John Smith, all very receptive with knowledge of military life and its family implications. I felt honoured to be there for the time I had and enjoyed catching up with Former RCS Frank Nevens one of this years Baton Run Team
