The Baton is designed to represent the nation’s support for our forces and as a symbol of our national conscience. It contains within it a message - to the people of this country and to our armed forces themselves.
It is recognised that we all have the right to object to war and we all have the right to our own beliefs.
It is that very freedom of choice that our forces are defending – and it must be cherished as it has been achieved at great cost in human terms.
As a nation we have chosen to have Armed Forces to defend our rights and, as long as that is the case, we should stand by them and support them whatever they are asked to do in the name of their country.
We want to reassure our serving personnel of our nation’s pride in their professionalism and dedication.
We are proud of their efforts and assure them that they are always in our thoughts whilst on active service.
