June 8th 2010
On Tuesday 8th June, Alan was invited onboard ‘Astute’ the Royal Navy’s latest Submarine and delighted to hand the Baton over to Cdr Andy Cole, OBE. Official photo’s were taken which will be posted shortly.
Astute is the largest, most advanced and formidable vessel of its kind ever operated by the Royal Navy. She incorporates the latest stealth technology combine with a world beating sonar system and equipped with Spearfish torpedoes and state of the art Tomahawk land attack missiles to make her a supremely effective naval asset.
Although the Officers and crew were extremely busy on the day, as the boat is still being fitted out, Alan was given a very informative tour throughout the day by Lt Scott Taylor, at the same time gaining an insight into life onboard.
On leaving Alan was presented with Astute’s name plaque and a photo of her signed by Cdr Coles, commemorating the Baton being aboard.
All of us at the Baton feel very proud of our association with Astute at such an early stage in her career and will follow her crew’s progress.
Please have a look at Astute’s website, after she is commissioned she will be formally HMS Astute.
