Remembrance Expedition

September 14th-21st 2010

We are so proud to have the Baton carried by Suzanne and her team on their personal test of endurance and a reminder of not only an incredible part of World War 2 history but also what women have been doing up to the present day, somewhere there’s a brave lady with her life on the line right now – don’t doubt it.

Suzanne and her team will be emulating the escape by Nancy Wake (SOE agent).  This September Suzanne will lead her team of extraordinary women across one of the hardest wartime escape routes, Le Chemin De La Liberte’ (Freedom Trail).  They will set off from Saint-Girons with a Guide and walk from France to Spain across the high peaks of the Pyrenees.

It must be emphasized that this is NOT an easy trek, it is an extremely hard and difficult traverse of a high mountain range.  The heights to be climbed are up to 2600mtrs (8580 feet) not once but twice in a single day (day three).  There are also huge snowfields to be crossed.  It’s a challenge as the weather can change very quickly in this part of the French Pyrenees, a morning of glorious sunshine and stunning views can change virtually in half an hour into an afternoon of storms, thick mist and nil visibility.  This may be a challenge but it’s a rewarding one, and for an excellent cause.  Over the 5 days they will cover a distance of 80Kilometres (50 miles).

Please look at the Expedition site to sponsor this really superb effort in aid of The Royal British Legion that is by no stretch of the imagination a walk in the park and also to learn about a most inspiring lady Nancy Wake an SOE agent and resistance fighter who helped thousands of servicemen escape across the Pyrenees to freedom.
