Isle of Man Parish Walk

June 26th & 27th 2010

Len’s report on the I.O.M Walking Race Challenge - 85 miles in 24 Hours on the 26 & 27th June 2010.

“ 880’ Heading down into Peel..about 30 miles into the race..I had covered 56.5 miles by 11.42pm when a marshall stopped me from continuing as my support car was not in sight.  In fact my son had gone back to pick up my team mate who had retired at 52.5 miles.

I was devastated as I had time in hand to get to the finish at Douglas and to be one of the 134 finishers.  However I was given the time of the last check point at Andreas and 224th place out of a field of 1,489.

It was a privilege to have taken the Baton around the I.O.M, I was able to talk to fellow walkers and others about “the Message” and the response was of total support.

It is quite an experience to carry the Baton on a challenge, you are always aware of it, what it represents. You dig harder to reach the goal!”
